World Pride 2023 - Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
World Pride 2023! Ah, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras! The time of year where the city of Sydney comes alive with music, laughter, and of course, love. From glittery costumes and outrageous floats, to intimate music and captivating performances, the celebration of LGBTQIA+ culture is something that we look forward to all year round..
This year's Mardi Gras is particularly significant, Sydney is hosting the World Pride 2023.
As a sex and relationships columnist, I've attended some of the world's most vibrant and colourful events, but honestly our own Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras stands out as one of the most unforgettable.
As to many of you, to me, this is a celebration of diversity, love, and self-expression has been taking place in the heart of Sydney for over 40 years, and every year it gets bigger and better. This year is it’s 44th anniversary!!! 🥳
Through events leading up to it and on the day of the parade itself you I can feel the excitement in the air. The city awash in rainbow colours, with banners, flags, and posters proclaiming the Mardi Gras motto: "Unity, Strength, Pride."
Everywhere I look, I see smiling faces, familiar faces, glittering costumes, and crowds of people dancing and laughing together.
The centrepiece of the Mardi Gras festivities is, of course, the parade. (This year it is on the 25th of Feb) And if you haven’t been you’ve never seen anything quite like it - every year it is a mesmerising display of creativity, passion, and political activism. Floats and marchers representing every aspect of the LGBTQ+ community paraded down Oxford Street, accompanied by pulsing music and cheering crowds. There are drag queens, leather daddies, and everything in between, each group proudly showing their unique style and personalities.
Every year as I watch the parade, I am struck by the sense of unity and solidarity among the participants. Despite our diverse backgrounds and experiences, we were all united by a common goal: to celebrate identity, challenge prejudice, and stand up for the rights.
Aside from the parade, there are countless other events and parties happening all over the city. Find out the full program from official Mardi Gras site here.
Festivities starting with the Fair Day next week on the 19th Of Feb. I will be lucky enough to attend some of these, and from my past experience believe me, they are just as fun and festive as the main event.
Whether you are watching a cabaret show, dancing at a club, or just chatting with new friends, it feels like you’re a part of a massive, inclusive community.
As I reflect on my experiences of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, I am filled with a sense of wonder and gratitude. I am grateful to have been a witness to this celebration of love and diversity, and I will always remember it as one of the most joyful and inspiring events I have ever attended.
Now, back to business! Well done for reading all the way to here. The girls at Michelle’s, Nirvana and RPM invite you to come and experience the pleasure of a girl on girl massage. Our masseuses are skilled in the art of massage and can make you feel relaxed, pampered, and completely rejuvenated. With a combination of soft touches and sensual strokes, you'll soon be drifting away in a blissful state of relaxation. From sultry body rubs to full-on body to body massages, there’s something to suit every taste. However my recommendation and a personal favourite would be the Body Slide.
So enjoy, have fun as alway s responsibly and take care of each other this festive season ;-)
