Love is Quarantine
A new Instagram project based on Netflix’s love is blind is a unique response to the pandemic: Love is Quarantine. While people are staying at home in isolation or voluntary quarantine, unique and innovative new ways of interacting are becoming the norm. Wine Zoom dates with your friends, online workouts with your PT, telehealth consultation for mental and physical health. If you're getting sick of the small walk from your lounge to your fridge during this time, tune into Love is Quarantine.
Love is quarantine is a novel approach to the social distancing we are practising as a society to ensure we can respond to the pandemic adequately within hospitals and reduce community transmission. In love is Blind contestants meet each other through windowless and lonely pods, with the only tech for communication. They chat for 10 days and then decide if their match has marriage potential. This is akin to our current situation, people are at home matching on tinder but unable to take it beyond 2.5 metres, we are connecting online more than ever before but casual sex is no longer on the table.
In love is quarantine contestants voice call five matches across the U.S and then send in their reaction videos. Love is quarantine is similar, without the marriage proposal as a focus. Conversations last from 10-40 minutes depending on the contestants. Over 1000 contestants signed up and attempted to turn social distancing into a digital reality show on Instagram TV. The show plans to have themed nights from seniors to frontliners and essential workers during this pandemic. While we as Aussie’s can’t participate right now (unless someone starts one here?!) we can watch from afar… Check out their Instagram or website to stay up to date.
Until we are back we will love you from afar.
