SAFE SEX AND BABY BOOMERS.
With more people living healthier lifestyles, our older generation the baby boomers are living longer and fuller lives. As Divorce becomes much more accepted and commonplace, many are finding a renewed awakening in their sex lives. Baby boomers are exploring new avenues of casual sexual encounters and with all the new drugs on the market like Viagra, casual sex before making any commitments has become possible for them.
As the internet gives our older generation the freedom to find new love, there seems to be an issue that hasn’t been raised, the issue of safe sex. With most baby boomers having been in monogamous relationships for a major part of their lives, condoms never really came into the equation when it came to sex. Most still believed that condoms only came into play when it came to pregnancy. The thought of STI’S never crossed their minds as they seemed to have missed the sex education campaigns of the 90’s and today’s safe sex messages are targeted at younger people. The fact that society on a whole seems to dismiss the thought that older people still have sex, and it seems that they’ve been forgotten about entirely.
This is all a bit of a shame, there would be nothing more embarrassing to someone who’s never had to deal with sexual health tests, to find out from their GP that they have a cluster on their old mate. As more and more older men and women are choosing to stay single and explore their sexuality, what do they do to keep themselves safe and still have a good time. Maturity levels certainly help in this matter, if our older generation can be level headed and open about their new found sexual freedom, then that could only be a positive. So there’s no time to be coy and shy, baby boomers need to start a dialogue about safe sex before getting into bed with each other, no condom no funny business. And hey, discussing the topic may even be an ice breaker, so slap on that rubber and go for gold!
Boom Baby Boom!
