Sensate focus is a process that allows you to expand pleasure from just the genitals to the entire body. Today we are going to uncover what Sensate focus really is...
What is sensate focus?
Sensate focus is a process that allows you to expand pleasure from just the genitals to the entire body. Created by the sex masters, Masters and Johnson in the 1960s sensate focus allows you to “remap your body for pleasure.” Instead of focusing on genitals, sensate focus expands attention to what it feels like to be touched, kissed and caressed on other parts of your body. Kissing, touching or licking your partner's neck, head, ears or stomach, rubbing and touching your partner's body to allow new sensations to be enjoyed.
Sensate focus is the act of touching and being touched. It helps to awaken both sensual and sexual sensations and feelings to establish an alternative way of intercourse. During studies conducted by Masters and Johnson, they learned that behaviours such as the “wham bam thank you ma’am” approach (a term used in the book) interferes with sensate focus. Disrupting sex and sensualitiy, viewing sex as a thing to do as opposed to an activity that can be played out for hours.
We must first expand our understanding of sex to include all forms of foreplay and focus more on feelings than just penetration. There is so much to enjoy and distract yourself with on another's body. Why not take your time and focus on giving and receiving the sensations and feelings. Don’t leave sex until the last thing at night, a release when you’re exhausted. Focus on intimacy, spend some time on it.
